DESCRIPTION
SILICA FUME is a highly efficient pozzolanic mineral admixture that combines with silt in fresh concrete to produce a new calcium hydrate-silicate (CHS) binder. The new cement matrix is chemical resistant and has a denser microscopic pore structure. The compacted SILICA FUME allows the production of more resistant and durable concrete with normally unattainable characteristics.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
- Extremely low chloride -ion permeability, in addition to high electrical resistance, prevents corrosion of reinforcing steel.
- Ultimate resistance to high compression (8,000-17,000 psi), at various doses of SILICA FUME.
- High early strength (without steam cure): 3,500 psi at 24 hrs. and 5,500 psi at 3 days. With steam curing and optimal mix ratios, these strengths can be increased from 50 to 100%.
- Resistance to chemical attack caused by chlorides, nitrates, acids, sulfates and internal alkaline reactions.
- Increased durability and abrasion resistance
- Because it has a small particle 1/100 with respect to the cement, it produces very dense concrete.
Dosage:
The dosage of Silica Fume depends on the desired characteristics, generally from 5 to 10% of the weight of the cement.
APPLICATIONS:
In concrete plants, compacted SILICA FUME provides anticorrosive concrete for parking slabs, high-strength concrete projects, bridges, tunnels, and maritime structures.
In prefabricated concrete applications, SILICA FUME. compacted produces high early and late strengths. It can reduce steam cure time, and provides substantial savings in heating and form change costs.
In shotcrete applications, either by dry or wet methods; the compacted SILICA FUME additive produces high strength, waterproof concrete, high corrosion protection of steel with significant rebound loss, allowing the application of thicker layers with each pass.
material handling
The dry compacted SILICA FUME is a product that practically does not release dust, flows easily and can be stored in ordinary cement silos and transported in bags or bulk cement tanks. It can be moved to cement storage silos, with pneumatic lines or bucket elevator and then handled by automated concrete batching systems.
CONTAINER
The dry compacted SILICA FUME can be packed in standard cement tanks of 23 to 25 tons. or wholesale in polypropylene "Super Sacks" of one ton (60 ft3). The double density allows for bulk handling and helps reduce transportation costs when compared to uncompacted silica fume. It is also packaged in bags of 25 and 50 lbs. For smaller projects and on-site applications. SILICA FUME is also available in various densities (from 25 to 40 lbs/ft3) to meet the requirements of different applications.
